Tsireya belongs to the Metkayina clan, an oceanic people distinct from the forest-dwelling Omatikaya. Her parents are Tonowari and Ronal, the leaders of this clan. When Jake Sully's family seeks refuge in the eastern sea, Tsireya befriends Lo'ak, one of Jake's sons. She helps him navigate their new aquatic environment as they learn to adapt to Metkayina ways. Her relationship with Lo'ak develops through shared experiences and cultural exchange, bridging the gap between the forest Na'vi newcomers and the oceanic inhabitants.

In Their Own Story

After fleeing the Omatikaya clan, Jake's children begin assimilating into the Metkayina way of life under Tsireya's guidance. She befriends Lo'ak, teaching him how to move through their underwater world. When Aonung and his friends entice Lo'ak on a dangerous hunting trip that strands him in perilous waters, Tsireya is not the one who saves him from the shark-like predator—that honor goes to Payakan, an exiled Tulkun. However, her presence remains constant as she supports Lo'ak's integration into their culture. During the RDA threat led by Colonel Quaritch, Tsireya stands with her people as they face the destruction of their dwellings and the capture of Tulkun.
