Na'vi Resistance Force

Former TAP students united with Na'vi clans to reclaim the Western Frontier from the RDA.

The Na'vi Resistance Force in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora emerges from a specific lineage of young Na'vi who were abducted and trained by the Resources Development Administration (RDA) before being awakened sixteen years later. This group, initially comprising Tamtey, Ri'nela, Aha'ri, Teylan, Nor, and their handler Dr. Alma Cortez, was formed in 2154 when the RDA's defeat forced an evacuation of Pandora. While Aha'ri was killed during the initial escape attempts under Mercer's orders, the remaining students were placed in suspended animation to avoid execution. Awakened in 2162 by resistance fighters working with Alma, they narrowly escaped a returning RDA strike force led by John Mercer. This core group united with local clans and ex-RDA personnel to organize a fight back against human exploitation of the Western Frontier.

Lore & Background

The resistance's origins trace back to 2146 when Dr. Alma Cortez and John Mercer launched The Ambassador Program (TAP), abducting five young Na'vi children: Tamtey, Ri'nela, Aha'ri, Teylan, and Nor. Raised as soldiers within the RDA, they remembered their abduction and attempted to escape, resulting in Mercer shooting Aha'ri to terrorize the others into submission. Eight years later, amidst the RDA's general retreat from Pandora, Mercer ordered the now-adult students executed as liabilities. Alma defied him, placing them in a cryogenic chamber. Sixteen years on, in 2162, Na'vi resistance fighters and Alma woke them just as Mercer returned to finish the job. Tamtey escaped, reunited with friends, and joined a team of ex-RDA personnel led by Billy Nash. Their first major success involved destroying an RDA energy mining operation, which allowed Tamtey to commune with Eywa and learn of the nearly extinct Sarentu clan.

In Their Own Story

The narrative arc of this resistance is defined by betrayal, redemption, and the unification of scattered clans. After the initial escape in 2162, the group faced constant RDA aggression, including a raid on Alma's hideout that forced them to seek refuge with the Aranahe clan under leader Ka'nat. Tensions rose within the group when Nor resented Alma for failing to protect them from Mercer, creating a rift with Teylan before an ambush captured Tamtey. Billy Nash rescued Tamtey at the cost of his life, only for the resistance to discover that Alma and many others were afflicted by an RDA chemical weapon. Investigations into the Kame'tire clan revealed a traitor who had tipped off Mercer about the Sarentu massacre years prior. The conflict reached its peak when Nor fatally stabbed Alma's Avatar body; before dying, she conveyed memories revealing her regret over facilitating the Sarentu genocide to ensure TAP's success. Ultimately, Tamtey and Teylan, after Teylan switched sides from Mercer, sabotaged a massive underground bomb intended by Mercer to strip-mine Pandora, trapping him in the explosion.

Reader's Guide

To understand the Na'vi Resistance Force in this timeline, one must focus on the Western Frontier's specific clans: Aranahe, Zeswa, and Kame'tire. The player character, Tamtey, organizes these disparate groups to fight the RDA. Progression involves gaining 'clan favor' by defeating RDA troops and helping fellow Na'vi, which unlocks rare weapons and armor. Key moments include destroying an energy mining operation to connect with Eywa, investigating the traitorous Kame'tire elder Anufi who exposed the TAP Con-1 facility, and uniting all clans for a final assault on Mercer's base. The resistance utilizes guerrilla tactics, using Na'vi senses to find weak points and flying ikran mounts for navigation. They are supported by ex-RDA personnel like Billy Nash (until his death) and Dr. Alma Cortez (until her death). The group's ultimate victory forces the RDA to retreat from the region entirely.
